Groups usually come here for the same reason: everyone wants to be together, and nobody wants to be on top of each other. Four bedrooms across three separate buildings makes that easy. Couples get their own doors. Anyone up early can make coffee without waking the house.

It was built by the sculptor Peter Ambrose as a home and studio, with later buildings by his son, the architect Garrick Ambrose. The art on the walls is the family's. It reads as a house someone made, rather than a rental someone furnished.

Where it is

Ten minutes north of town

Las Tunas is the quiet stretch north of Todos Santos: dirt roads, desert, the Pacific at the end of the lane. Town, with its restaurants and galleries, is a short drive away, which is usually the right distance for a week with a group.

Marisela looks after the house locally and is there through the stay. A private chef can be arranged if you'd rather not cook every night.
